Educator Bio

Katie Herling is an American actor and educator currently based out of Los Angeles, California.

She received her BFA in Performance from the Oregon Center for the Arts at Southern Oregon University, with a Minor in Shakespeare Studies.

A classically trained actor, Katie was fortunate enough to encounter something wonderful and rare at a young age - Knowledgeable, inspirational, and compassionate teachers.

When she was 11 years old, she began her theatrical training at the California Shakespeare Theatre Conservatory - An experience that would shape her life in ways she could never have anticipated, and would not change for anything!

While at CalShakes, Katie encountered a passionate array of teachers and industry professionals who taught her not only what it means to be a good artist, but what it means to be a kind and compassionate human being through your art. The 8 years she spent as a CalShakes Conservatory student we formative in every sense of the word and set her on a path to shape hearts and minds, following in the footsteps of her CalShakes heroes.

Katie began her teaching career in 2016 as an Education Intern with the Professional Immersion Program at the CalShakes Conservatory in Orinda, CA. Since then, Katie has worked in theatre education programs all across the West Coast, from the Quinan Street project in Contra Costa County, CA to Once Upon a Time Children's Theatre in Malibu, CA.

Most recently, Katie has spent the past 2 years as a Teaching Artist with the Kingsmen Shakespeare Company in Thousand Oaks, CA. Through Kingsmen's Educational Tour, Katie has had the opportunity to teach Shakespeare's works to hundreds of students across Los Angeles County, providing children grades K-8 with entertainment and an invaluable introduction to The Bard.

Katie specializes in teaching Shakespeare Performance (Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Levels), Shakespeare Text Analysis (Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Levels), Contemporary Acting, Movement for the Actor, and Stage Combat (Beginning and Intermediate Levels).
